Picnic on the Green

A summer “picnic on the green” is planned for the August bank holiday Monday 31st August from mid-day until 4pm on the playing fields. This will be a very relaxed family event for the whole village and we hope that the sun will shine for us!

We would like to have a street party atmosphere at the event and encourage groups in the local community to organise their own street party areas like the Diamond Jubilee. Families should plan to bring their own picnics and gazebos to the afternoon’s celebrations. BBQ’s are allowed but need to be raised off the grass on bricks or paving slabs which will be provided. There will be a prize for the best dressed table of the afternoon!

A bar will be provided in the Pavilion by the Calleva Arms and a range of games will be available for all to play including: Boules, Croquet, Badminton, Volley Ball, Skittles, Swing Ball, Football and Rounder’s.

We will have live music from a new young band called Frixion from the Hurst school who have won the school battle of the bands competition for the last two years and we are planning on having an “open mike” session during the afternoon. If you are a local musician and would be interested in taking part in the “open mike” session, please contact Paul Baker by e-mail on paulbaker@silchester.org .

There will also be a range of classic cars and vintage motor bikes on show during the afternoon. If you have a car or bike that you would like to display, please also let us know as soon as possible.

Setup starts from 10:00am onwards and we hope to see you all on Monday 31st August at mid-day for the “Picnic on the Green” and a relaxed, fun afternoon!
